History & Philosophy

The history…

From one man's dream to a new era

It all began in 1973, in the heart of the forests of Aywaille

Joseph Renson, an unconditional wildlife lover, decided to make a slightly crazy dream for that time period a reality: to create a zoo that respects nature, animals and the rhythm of life.

Over the years, Joseph Renson developed the park with remarkable intuition. He introduced new species, expanded the natural areas, created a unique drive-through safari in Belgium, and laid the foundation for what would become much more than a park: a bridge between humans and wildlife.

Upon his passing in 2021, after nearly 90 years of life, the founder left behind a place shaped by his passion and vision.

Monde Sauvage

In 2024, the story takes a new turn.

Alexandre Dallemagne, a Liège-based entrepreneur and biodiversity enthusiast, takes up the torch.
For him, it is not an investment, but a project of the heart: a true childhood dream.

With his team, he initiates a gentle yet ambitious transformation:

  • Modernisation of the infrastructure to enhance visitor comfort and animal welfare.
  • The park is open for a large part of the year, so that nature can be discovered in all seasons.
  • Development of new experiences.
  • Strengthening conservation commitments through scientific partnerships, breeding programss and increasingly rigorous care for the inhabitants of the park’s various habitats.

Monde Sauvage thus enters a new era, combining authenticity, innovations and knowledge sharing. A place that remains true to its roots while extending its branches toward the future.

A place where one man’s dream continues to grow… and delights both young and old.

Philosophy…

Reconnecting humans with nature

At Monde Sauvage, we believe that nature is not just a backdrop but a living connection to be preserved.

Our mission goes far beyond simply showing animals: we aim to inspire, awaken and raise awareness.
This is the philosophy that guides every choice, every development and every interaction with our visitors.
Here, wildlife is experienced in a natural setting, respecting its rhythms, with an approach that strives to be authentic.

A vision: to live with, understand and respect all living beings

Through every animal encounter, every walk in the park and every educational sign, our ambition is to reveal what nature has to teach us. Because respect comes from knowledge, and wonder is the best path to awareness.

Une mission en 3 dimensions

A mission in three dimensions

An educational experience

1

Understand the species, their behaviors and their roles in ecosystems.

Discover the threats to their survival. Learn how to take action, on our scale, to protect them.

We believe in gentle and active education that inspires curiosity… and encourages better action.

An emotional experience

2

Nothing can replace the gaze of an animal, the power of a roar, the bond of a care session or the surprise of a flight.

These suspended moments create a deep, often unforgettable, connection.

This connection is the starting point for a change in perspective.

A responsible experience

1

We want each visit to leave an impression on people's minds, not on nature. Our model is being built gradually on a sustainable approach, in harmony with our environment : architectural choices will be integrated progressively, alongside respectful resource management and constant attention to the coexistence between humans and animals.

A park that inspires, balances and transforms

Visiting Monde Sauvage is more than just seeing animals. You slow down. You observe. You breathe. You reconnect with something greater than yourself. At a pace, with an intuition and a simplicity that everyday life sometimes forgets.
We believe that nature makes us better. That it soothes, balances and awakens.

Our philosophy is simple: to build bridges between the human world and that of other living beings.

Turn every visit into an opportunity to become more curious, more respectful and more aware.

Our values & commitments!

What guides us every day

At Monde Sauvage, every action, every choice and every development is driven by strong values. Far more than a wildlife park, we are a living place, designed to reconnect humans with nature through respect, wonder and awareness.

Respect and animal welfare

Living conditions designed for the animals

Respect for life is the cornerstone of our mission. We do not host animals to display them but to protect them, help people learn about them and provide an environment that respects their biology, behavior and specific needs.

Each enclosure, each habitat is designed to closely mimic natural conditions :

  • Quiet and retreat areas.
  • Continuous veterinary care.
  • Feeding tailored to the rhythms and needs of each species.

Because animal welfare is not optional but a requirement, it guides all our decisions, from the park’s design to the ongoing training of our teams.

Authenticity

A genuine immersion, without artifices

At Monde Sauvage, nature is the setting. We work with the existing topography, natural terrain and existing trees to create a path that blends into the forest, rather than the other way around.

Our structures are designed to :

  • Respect the natural contours of the land.
  • Preserve the local vegetation and biodiversity.
  • Offer visitors a simple and genuine experience, true to the spirit of the place.

Authenticity is our signature and our responsibility.

Species conservation

A committed player for biodiversity

Monde Sauvage is an active member of several European Breeding Programs (EEP).
These programs aim to maintain optimal genetic diversity, prevent the extinction of threatened species and, in some cases, reintroduce animals into their natural habitats.

We also collaborate with :

  • Universities and research centers.
  • Conservation organizations,
  • Specialist veterinarians and ethologists.

These combined efforts allow us to contribute, on our scale, to the preservation of the world’s living heritage.

Wonder & education

Learning through wonder

We believe that emotion precedes understanding and that wonder is the gateway to knowledge.

At Monde Sauvage, learning is :

  • Sensory: listening to a roar, watching a flight, smelling the forest floor…
  • Playful: through our educational activities, children’s games and illustrated explanatory panels.
  • Intergenerational: for both children and adults, every visit is an opportunity to learn together.

We don’t just want to convey facts: we want to inspire curiosity, understanding and respect.

Values in the service of a more
aware future

Every day, our team works to bring these values to life in every corner of the park.
They are not just nice intentions displayed on a wall: they are our compass.

We believe that by offering a fresh perspective on nature, we contribute to a future that is more responsible, gentler and more vibrant.

We know the path is demanding. We do not claim to be perfect.
But we move forward with clarity and commitment. And every day, we take one more step.
